Description

Loening OL-8 Amphibian. This type of plane was used in the early 1920s for Alaskan aerial surveys. This model was built circa 1950 on a wooden frame covered with model aircraft paper and fitted with a glow plug ignition gas engine. Has a pilot in the cockpit. 38″ long x 45″ wingspan. Engine detail is excellent. The wing and tail reinforcing wires are rigged. Radio control unit is not present. This plane may never have been flown. Very few of these survived because when they were used they tended to crash. Overall fair to good condition. One small tear in side. Provenance: From the estate of Alan Gaines of A & A Gaines Antiques, Newport, Rhode Island.
