19th century. Heavy brass hardware and trim. Mounted on a contemporary metal base. Inlaid brass plaque on lid “The most noble / The Marquis Wellesley. / No. 1”. Possibly related to the ship Marquis Wellesley, British East India Company. 16″ high x 24 1/4″ wide x 16 1/2″ deep. Chest alone is 10″ high. Missing lock. Top shows old crack. Shows minor restoration.
