Late 18th/ Early 19th century. Mexican solid silver. The charger was owned by Buckingham Smith (1810-1871), diplomat, author, explorer and philanthropist. Buckingham Smith was a citizen of St. Augustine, Florida. He was a US Diplomatic Representative to Mexico. He is known for being a surveyor of the Florida Everglades. The charger was bequeathed to Joanna Williams in 1872 which is engraved on the base. Modeled on classical 18th century designs, finely wrought, hand tool marks. The charger bears engraved ownership markings associated with late 18th / early 19th century Mexican silver markings. 17″ wide with handles x 15″ diameter. 41.79 ozt.
