Description

Dated 1867. Given to Sir Henry Keppel, Admiral of the Fleet, Royal Navy 1867 from his friend, James Thresher. Sir Henry Keppel was known for leading the siege of Sebastopol during the Crimean War and took part in the capture of Canton during the second Opium War. He likely received this looking glass when he was promoted Commander in Chief of the China Station aboard HMS Rodney. Excellent working condition. Single draw. 27″ long (closed); 37 1/2″ long (open). Provenance: From the estate of Alan Gaines of A & A Gaines Antiques, Newport, Rhode Island.
