A rare painted cedar and whalebone washtub. 19th century. The tub has cedar staves held together with 3 copper bands with two copper handles with two turned whalebone grips. Painted in the original blue green paint. 9″ h x 17 1/2″ dia x 3″ handles. Shows age appropriate wear to the painted surface. It is a rare occurrence to discover a functional piece, improved with scrimshaw whalebone handles and polychrome painted surface.
