Daughter of Reverend Morris Edward White, Pastor of the Congregational Society in Southhampton, Massachusetts and Louisa Clifford Payson White. Catharine is seated holding a doll with her pet cat in the background. Sight size: 23 1/2″ high x 19 1/2″ wide. Overall in frame: 29 1/4″ high x 25 1/4″ wide. Frame shows some chips to gesso. Re-lined and shows some inpainting to top background. Needs cleaning. A portrait of Catharine Putnam White’s uncle, Thomas Payson, painted by Samuel Waldo is held in the collection of the Fine Arts Museums San Francisco, object number 43.10.2.
