19th c. An oval baleen ditty box. Delicate fingered construction with detailed engraving with ships, train, figures, American flag, poetry, and cartouche with a coastal city harbor. The box is signed N. Nye, and also signed illegibly. 4″ high by 6 1/2″ wide by 4 3/4″ deep. Shows repair to lid and insect damage. Purchased on Nantucket many years ago.
