Surgeon’s kit. Late 19th-century. Brass-bound mahogany case. Made by George Tiemann & Co, New York. Belonged to Dr. John Slayter. Includes medical tools in four compartments – scalpels, spreaders, bone saw. Appears to be intact. The box likely belonged to Dr. John Slayter, born Halifax, Nova Scotia, born March 8th, 1862, and died Nov 25, 1911, Belmont, Massachusetts. Dr. Slayter was a surgeon in the US Army and served in the Philippines.
