Engagement between the Chesapeake and the Shannon, aquatint by Jeakes. Captain Brooke commanded the Shannon, while the American frigate Chesapeake was commanded by Captain Lawrence. The Chesapeake was boarded and taken in sight of Boston Harbor in 1813. Sight size 18″ x 22″, overall in a 19th c. oak frame and under glass. This rare colored print shows damage in the form of a repair to the left and right corners, several larger tears, and some staining and discoloration.
