Daguerreotype portrait of Dr. Elias Braman Harris (September 13, 1824, Richfield Springs, NY- August 7, 1900, San Francisco, CA). Portrait by Jacob Shew (1826-1879) Sacramento, CA. Jacob Shew was the brother of noted photographer William Shew. Dr. Harris arrived in San Francisco in 1850, and operated several businesses including a medical practice, hotel, mill, and mine in Amador County, CA. He was also a personal physician to the Bonanza Kings. Harris served in the United States Navy during the Civil War. In 1865 he married Anna Isabella Stevens (August 14, 1828, New York, NY- July 18, 1908, Mill Valley, Marin, CA) Overall 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″.
