Early 19th century. Lift top opening to reveal compartmentalized pewter liner with engraved top. Original hardware, brass handles. Overall design depicting likely a royal figure seated, drinking tea, surrounded by numerous male and female figures. Decorated on all sides as well as the top. Interior of lid also decorated with figures drinking tea. 9 1/2″ high x 13 1/2″ wide x 10 1/4″ deep. Top shows wear to the paint, minor losses and cracking to the lacquer. Sides also show minor cracking to lacquer finish. Interior is in good condition. Provenance: From the estate of Alan Gaines of A & A Gaines Antiques, Newport, Rhode Island.
