1830-56 box by Captain Frederick A. Wing of Westport, MA made for his wife Eliza H. Wing (initialed on front E.H.W.) inlayed with woods and mother-of-pearl. Wing was whaling officer-master from 1830s – 50s on vessels including the brig Mexico, ship Cadmus and barks United States, Mattapoisett, and Greyhound. Compartmented interior with removable tray contains small whale skeletal bone bodkins, crochet hooks and miscellaneous scrimshaw trinkets. 5 1/2″ H x 14″ W x 9″ D. Overall good condition with minor inlay losses.
