Ca. 1860s. A very finely chased and repousse tapered cylindrical cup with intricate designs featuring dancers, birds, tigers, elephants, peacocks and dragons. Engraved on base, “Presented to Capt. C.J.F.S. Forbes by No. 8 Company to Batt. 19th Reg on his retirement.” Otherwise unmarked. Probably Captain Charles James Forbes Smith Forbes, British Colonial officer in Burma, 1834-1879.
