18th century. To include: A) 18th century. Dragoon Saber. Ornately embossed hilt with fancy wrought iron handle. Dated 1702 on blade with additional illegible engraving. No scabbard. 38″ long. Shows some chipping and wear to blade, otherwise good condition. Hand guard shows possible restoration and one decorative trim element is missing. B) Colonial short saber with carved hardwood handle with copper trim and iron hilt. Blade has illegible engraving, but the word Tortuga is visible. No scabbard. 33″ long. Age separation in handle and minor chipping to blade. Blade shows ancient repair. Provenance: From the estate of Alan Gaines of A & A Gaines Antiques, Newport, Rhode Island.
